Who We Serve
The Woman's Exchange was founded and operated by women since 1883. Our founders believed in providing women a safe space to conduct business activities that would have otherwise been frowned upon. We provided education, resources and support to those who wanted to better their lives and the lives of their families through financial security. This continues today as we aim to empower women through unforeseen difficulties that create barriers to independence.
Our four populations of individuals we serve are described below. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out. We would love to hear from you.
Early Entrepreneur
When starting their own businesses, women entrepreneurs may face a variety of barriers impacting their overall success and revenue. At The Woman’s Exchange of St. Louis, we understand that early-stage entrepreneurs must reinvest most of their profits into growing their business. It is our goal of supporting early-stage, women entrepreneurs who are looking to launch their business by providing a free, brick-and-mortar retail and restaurant experience where merchandise can be sold providing entrepreneurs experience in managing sales and products. We also offer mentorship, guidance, and training to any entrepreneur to successfully grow their business. This can include but is not limited to marketing, branding, legal, and accounting assistance.
Immigrant and Refugee (“ITP Program”)
The Immigrant and Refugee Training Program provides employment opportunities to immigrants and refugees in the United States. Immigrants and refugees add billions of dollars to the United States economy, which is why we provide an inclusive, friendly, and supporting work environment. ITP program participants receive additional resources such as on-site skill training, social support services, and community resources as requested.
Living Artist
The Woman’s Exchange strives to support artists and their unique creative abilities. Not all artists can earn a living by selling their creations and may seek additional work or stop creating to fully support themselves. Through the Living Artist program, The Woman’s Exchange empowers artists to earn revenue by selling the products they are passionate about creating. The Woman’s Exchange can manage inventory, facilitate sales, and provide customer support regarding products.
Self-Sufficiency
We understand there are a variety of life experiences that can impact a person’s economic success, especially for women. The Self-Sufficiency program is designed to empower personal and professional confidence and stability to successfully navigate unexpected life experiences. The Woman’s Exchange maintains a trauma-informed workplace to ensure all employees and program participants are provided a supportive and non-judgmental environment to heal, grow, and thrive.
This program is designed to be a short-term intervention to handle a specific need and provides comprehensive support for the participant. Participants can transition out of this program and into another Woman’s Exchange program.
